One of the most versatile and accomplished racers competing in motorsports, Ryan Briscoe enters the 2011 season focused on two specific goals – winning the Indianapolis 500 and capturing the IZOD IndyCar Series championship for Team Penske.

With talent and experience on his side, the 29-year-old native of Sydney, Australia is certainly capable of accomplishing both of those monumental tasks this season. Few current drivers can claim to have the pedigree of Briscoe behind the wheel. Now in his fourth season competing for Team Penske, Briscoe has excelled in numerous disciplines on his way to taking his spot behind the wheel of the No. 6 IZOD/PPG Dallara/Honda.

Briscoe has driven Australian V8 Supercars, Grand-Am sports car prototypes, Le Mans sports car prototypes, Champ Cars, stock cars and A1GP and Formula One open-wheel machines.

In each of his previous three seasons with Team Penske, Briscoe has led laps, earned poles and won races for the most successful team in the history of North American open-wheel racing. He has also finished among the top-five drivers in the championship chase for three consecutive seasons and battled for the 2009 IZOD IndyCar Series crown down to the final lap of the final race.

In 2010 Briscoe once again proved his mettle, as he fought his way to the front throughout the season. His best performance took place at Texas Motor Speedway, where he earned the pole, led the most laps and captured the race victory. He also won poles at Kansas and Chicago and he earned a strong second-place finish at Watkins Glen and a hard-fought third-place result at St. Petersburg. Briscoe's speed and tenacity were rewarded with eight top-five finishes and a solid fifth-place in the final series standings.

Last season's showing followed a dynamic 2009 campaign that saw Briscoe fight for the top position in the series standings for the entire season. Close finishes became a consistent theme for Briscoe in 2009. He won by just .0162 of a second at Kentucky Speedway in a thrilling battle with Ed Carpenter to the checkered flag and he edged Scott Dixon at the wire by .0077 of a second at Chicagoland Speedway for the fourth-closest finish in series history.

In a memorable season, Briscoe claimed four poles, 13 top-five and 13 top-10 finishes to go along with three race wins as he finished third in the hotly-contested 2009 IndyCar Series championship battle that was decided at the season finale in Miami.

Briscoe joined Team Penske in 2008 and his season took off at The Milwaukee Mile where he earned his first IndyCar Series win and Penske Racing's landmark 300th major race victory. The win had extra-special significance as it occurred at the same track where four-time Indianapolis 500 winner and Team Penske advisor, Rick Mears, scored his first win for the team in 1978.

While 2008 marked Briscoe's first year driving IndyCars for Penske Racing, he was no stranger to the Team. In 2007, Briscoe drove for Penske's winning American Le Mans Series (ALMS) program as he and teammate Sascha Maassen finished second in the 2007 Championship. Briscoe also earned ALMS Rookie of the Year honors. That same year, he raced in the 91st running of the Indianapolis 500, driving the No. 12 Symantec Luczo Dragon Racing entry. He earned a seventh-place starting spot and finished an impressive fifth for the team co-owned by Jay Penske in just his second start at the Brickyard.

Briscoe's relationship with Penske Racing began after a remarkable comeback story. After enjoying a promising rookie IndyCar Series season with Target Chip Ganassi Racing in 2005, Briscoe's career took a frightening turn when he was involved in a fiery crash at Chicagoland Speedway. After suffering numerous injuries in the spectacular accident, Briscoe was sidelined for the remainder of the season. He worked very hard to recover quickly from his injuries and his perseverance paved the way to Team Penske.

Briscoe is a watersports enthusiast. He enjoys waterskiing, wake boarding and wake surfing. He works out seven days a week, employing a triathlete's regimen of running, biking, swimming and weight training. He also plays golf and tennis. Speaks fluent Italian and loves sushi and Italian food.
